Ok, this is probably going to sound dumb, but I figured I just had to share.
First let me preface this post with my reaction to an article I read on Lifehacker.com – The article is titled “Goal Setting for Skeptics: Why ‘Goal Setting’ Makes you Cringe”. In this article, they talked about why some of us (ME!) have a hard time setting goals. They explain the paradox of choice, fear of failure, and procrastination. Worth a read if your interested. My reaction to reading this article was, “HEY! How’d they get in my head like that???”
I have never been much of a goal oriented person. I hated when they were trying to force me to do goal setting in middle school, never did much goal setting in high school, never needed to set goals in the Army (except to pass the physical fitness tests!) and have skated by without doing much goal setting since. Awful, I know.
As a part of this IM Journey of mine, I decided that it was high time to set some goals. After all, if I don’t set some goals, what am I really working toward? I don’t have those goals set just yet, but I’m pretty seriously considering posting them here for the whole world to see when I finally set them. If I post them here, perhaps I’ll be more likely to strive to achieve them. Perhaps I’ll set all the wrong goals and get a bunch of help from those of you reading in re-focusing my goals. Who knows. What I do know is that I need to have some goals in this business if I want to be successful.
So after all that build up, now for the “this might sound dumb” part. I had mentally set a goal when I got started on this blog. It might sound corny, but what I really wanted to have happen the most was to have four specific people check in on the blog and leave me a comment or two. I really wanted to do that without ASKING them to read it. I wanted them to come to my blog of their own free will because I was posting on their blogs or whatever.
Today, that goal was finished! After only three days, all four people have commented on my blog (which would lead me to believe that they have visited it!)
I know you are probably my only four readers right now, but if all goes well, in the future there will be a whole lot more, so I feel that I ought to at least name the four of you.
You are (in order of appearance), Anna Williams, Normal Joe, Davin Ogden, and Holly Mann!
For the benefit of any future readers who may come across this post, I met all four of these GREAT people on Holly’s blog. As I began to inch toward making my first steps as an Internet Marketer, I decided that these four people were people to know. The fact that each of them has already been a part of my blog makes me feel incredibly blessed! There is an alliance forming there, if you will, called the Honest Marketing Movement and I hope to one day be a proud member myself!
My next goal is to finish Holly’s e-book “Honest Riches” and start implementing her methods. So I’ll let you all know when the next phase begins!

Ok, so to be fair, Anna, I guess you’re not COMPLETELY here of your own free will! But you have to admit – you sparked the idea – you’re kind of obligated! LOL. Ok, so maybe obligated is the wrong word, but I did KIND OF ask you to show up…
But the other 3 came of their own volition as far as I know! You’re not holding them hostage are you, Anna?

Hey Dustin,
Anna sent me an email threathening me if I didn’t visit, lol, I am only kidding. I have been checking out your blog for a few days now. I just haven’t posted anything. Looks like you are off to a great start. Keep up the good work and be sure to write your goals down- it helps. Take care

@Jerry – Thanks for the encouragement! I, too, feel like the blog is off to a good start…now to get the internet marketing off to a good start! I’m trying to really soak up the information in Holly’s ebook. I’m kind of a slow reader, so it’s taking time…but I am bound and determined. After I finish the book I think I’ll work on my written goals.
@Anna – I, uh, wait, i, er, I mean…Ok, I’ll shut up!

I can’t believe all these people are giving away my coercion tactics.
Doesn’ t this kind of defeat the purpose?
You watch out Joe. Shush! Or I’ll tell my guys to take your mayonnaise too.

Hello Readers,
I need help fast, I know there are some pretty smart Guys and Gals on this forum that could give me the answers to my pain in the butt free website.
I am not a newbie to computers, but certainly a newbie to creating my own website.
Here is my story in brief: I got my free website from Holly, I then download the WPMU zip file to a folder (directory) on my pc as per the tutorial.
I then log onto to Bluehost , whent to the root directory, select the Public_html folder, delete all its contents as per the tutiorial, next I upload the zip file to the public folder, I then extract the WPMU files. What this has done is to create a subfolder in public_html, rather than placing the wordpress files directly in the public_html folder… with me so far!!!… good..
I have set the permissions as requested… guess what when I try to fire up my website nothing worked . I have been over the exercise several time without success.
If there is no hope for this site , let me know, hopefully I can buy a cheap site from someone.
Thanks in anticipation for any positive assistance.

Kuberzee – I am sorry it took so long to get your comment approved! I have had an incredibly busy week off-line and haven’t been much in front of my computer working on any blog or IM related items.
I am not really educated on what you’re trying to accomplish, and at this very moment, I can’t get to the tutorial by Holly, but based on my experience in just setting up Wordpress (not WPMU) and adding plug ins and what not, it seems to me that the flaw in the process is that you upload the zip file to the public folder before extracting. It seems to me that you might need to extract to a local folder and upload the contents to your public_html folder. When you upload and then extract and you have a sub-folder, then I THINK what happens is you have to navigate to the directory of that sub-folder in order for that page to show.
Example: if you were in the public_html folder directly, then you would go to yourdomain.com but if you had a sub-folder called wpmu then you’d have to go to yourdomain.com/wpmu – does that make sense?
I could be way off – so don’t just take my word for it, although if it’s not working anyway, it might be worth a shot. Try navigating to your website in the fashion I mentioned to see if it shows there…if so, then perhaps my explanation makes sense and you need to move all the files in the sub-folder directly to the public_html folder.

First of all, if this is your first website, WP MU is probably a bit advanced for you and I don’t know that it is necessary.
Secondly, I have set up many WP Blogs but never WP MU. However, from what you are saying, it sounds like you deleted your website/blog, as it would have been residing in public_html. Unless I missed something. Maybe those are the instructions for new sites which don’t have extant blogs in them?
Third – You linked to a site in your comment called “ezesourse.com” What is that site? Do you have some relationship with that site? Or …
Fourth – Have you already written content on your blog? And have you written to Holly to ask for help with the situation?

It’s always good to hit your goal, but if you can surpass your goal, it’s even better. And, based on what I see, you have more readers and commenters than you expected; that should feel pretty special.
