Managing My Time Wisely

Updates Add comments

So – am I managing my time wisely? Hard to say. The very fact that I’ve been completely silent for almost an entire month would lead me to believe that I am not focusing on what I want to focus on. So what caused the silence? What caused the dry spell? What was it that kept me from taking forward steps in this IM Journey of mine?

I’m trying to come up with a completely honest and legitimate answer to those questions. A part of me wants to say I’ve just been so busy and that I’ve just had so much to do. I think the truth is that for the last month, I got really lazy. Not lazy in everything…just lazy in Internet Marketing. I think what happened was that I got overwhelmed with the next step of keyword research and suddenly became convinced that I wasn’t going to be able to do this and made my offline work my excuse to not do this.

That’s the bad news.

The good news is I’m not throwing in the towel.

I finished reading that book I talked about a couple of posts ago (about time management). I actually finished it quite some time ago. I think there was a lot that I took from that book. I really feel like I started making some forward progress on my productivity and my time management at work. The thing is I was working so hard on trying to establish those habits (which I haven’t done 100%, but I have made some good progress), that by the time I came home, I just didn’t want to focus anymore. I wanted to veg out. I wanted to take a brain vacation and not think about ANYTHING.

That’s all well and good, but not very productive from an IM stand point, now is it? Now, I have been completely stagnant for so long that I’ve lost time, money, and ALL forward momentum that I had. The worst part is that I very seriously (no excuses here!) will have very little time to do much of anything dealing with internet marketing for the next week or two. I suppose I need to make every minute count that I can.

So, anyway, I just wanted post an update to explain what’s going on with me lately. I’ll get my forward momentum back, but it may take a little bit (considering my offline job will be taking an extraordinarily larger chunk of my time over the next couple of weeks). Don’t lose faith in me yet! You’ll soon hear me making victorious proclamations!

Hi Dustin – I understand. I have a hard time keeping up with things as well. It seems that whenever I’m working on one project, I’m neglecting another. But I’m sure you’ll get up and running.

Don’t make keyword research overly complicated. Remember you can make as many websites as you want on your hosting account, you just have to pay for the domain names once a year. So if you start a site, practice for a while, and then realize there is something even better to go after, there’s nothing stopping you.

If you go after the idea we talked about, you don’t even have to write a lot when you don’t have time. You can just find a bunch of good YouTube videos and post them for a month in advance, setting your blog to post one video every three days. Then if you get wrapped up offline, at least you don’t have to worry about your blog going completely stale (I don’t mean this one, I mean your niche blog).

If you start with a more specialized blog and get it ranking well for a specialist term, you can expand it later into some of the really high-traffic keywords. You could really do well with that subject.

Okay, I’m back to work. On one of my projects – I have to choose …

I think that’s the problem, Anna. I am pretty well known for over-complicating things. My boss has told me that I remind him of his nephew who is of the type of personality that if you were to ask him the time, he’d tell you how to build a clock.

Teach a man to fish, I say!

I need to simplify and figure out what the heck I’m gonna do for my first round. I guess I need to stop thinking and DO!

This is gonna sound like I am procrastinating, but I’m really not…but it’s gonna have to wait until I am done with the next week or so of work…until we’re through the project we’re on that’s going to keep me tied up most hours of most days.

That’s okay. I sometimes have almost no time for some of my blogs because I’m working on others. And sometimes life offline does get in the way. I took a while to respond because I was leaving Europe. Just arrived back in America now.

Hi Dustin….wherever you are! Sometimes I just pop on to see if you have updated your blog on where you are in your journey.

Even if you are having to put progress on the back burner, the time you invested in what you have leared is still just that, an investment. When you are ready and able to, all you have learned and planned will still be waiting!

When you can, let us hear!

Annie – Sorry for the lack of response. My offline life has been so hectic lately that I just kinda put things on hold. Don’t worry, I haven’t given up! I’m just trying to get things back in order.

    Hey Anna!

I haven’t disappeared completely from the face of the earth just yet. I’ve just been so busy with work that I haven’t made any time for blogging or internet marketing. Don’t give up on me! I haven’t thrown in the towel just yet…just been on hold.
