It was actually your blog post, Holly, that had me wondering what I was missing! Here I was, thinking to myself, "OK, here is something that someone who is successful is using. Why are they using it? What is it that I am missing???"

Thanks for the plugin recommendation. I will most certainly have to check it out!

Dustin, I use a blog editor that I really like. I wrote about all the features here: http://honestholly.com/free-blog-word-processing-software-must-have/
and it is free to download and use forever. It is Windows Live Writer. You can also write while offline and save drafts - once connected to the web it would be posted to whichever categories you choose.

But with Wordpress, the built-in one is fine. If you want to take it further and make it better (with full editing capabilities and features you can) with this plugin: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/tinymce-advanced/

Holly Mann´s last blog post..Wordpress MU (WPMU) Installation Tutorial

That clears things up some. I guess blog editors can really come in handy for the people who are on the go! So far I've been pretty impressed with the Wordpress editor as well. I need to start adding some images tho...OH NO! UNFAMILIAR TERRITORY!!!

Can't be too much more difficult than blogger, right? Looks easy enough...

I've used a few, they are okay. Mostly they have more features like a word processor, but I do fine with wordpress built in editor! I've tried scribefire, it's a plugin for firefox and let's you add stuff to blog posts while browsing. Easy to add photos, text, or even video, it's cool...but I haven't used it much.

I've also used live writer, it's cool and gives you almost everything that microsoft word does. There are a few others, but the idea is that you get more functionality, and like you said, you can work when off line and upload at a later time.

I don't use them much, especially with wordpresses new autosave feature, I can get everything I need done in there.

But is it the kind of thing that would save time for someone if they didn't have an internet connection or is there something else I'm missing?

I guess I just had a little bit of a "light bulb" moment with that statement I just made. I suppose if someone is mobile and traveling with a laptop, they might be working on a blog but not have a connection, so I could definitely see the use there.

Are there any other reasons to use them?

I think they would be useful - I tried to install one but got error messages and didn't have time to figure out what was wrong. That's the only reason I haven't started using them yet - but it's on my list! If it works out I think it would save a lot of time.
